You'll work in a matrix organisation and report operationally through OMNIA Training and functionally through the ITEA Manager. Ultimately, you'll work for the British Army, championing innovation, and helping shape the future of military collective training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the execution, creation and maintenance of manual test plans.
- Responsible for the creation and maintenance of automated test frameworks and scripts.
- Produce test automation strategies, plans and reports in compliance with project guidelines.
- Define and manage test environments; create and manage test data; define and manage test tools.
- Integrate test automation into the deployment pipeline.
- Support estimation of test activities.
- Promote test automation and best practices within the team and across projects.
- Support test team interactions with the wider team and assist in the resolution of issues.
- Support the team at formal and artefact reviews as necessary.
- Be responsible for championing and fostering a culture of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) compliance and continuous improvement.
- Definition of test criteria and acceptance in the Verification and Validation Requirements Matrix (VVRM).
- Any other duties required to meet the needs of the programme.
Who we are looking for:

You won't let bureaucracy get in the way of what needs to be done, you'll learn lessons and share these lessons across the team. You won't necessarily have a military background, but you'll understand what it means to serve and to put the mission first. The OMNIA Training ITEA Test Engineer will provide and deliver ITEA activities across the Army Collective Training Service (ACTS) deliverables. Reporting directly to the ITEA Manager, they will be instrumental in delivering the ITEA Plan and ensuring the effective verification, validation, assurance, and acceptance of services and capabilities across the programme. This role requires a systems‑thinking mindset, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary engineering team in a complex and evolving environment. Given the programme's focus on modelling and simulation, familiarity with relevant standards and technologies is highly desirable.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Proven track record of creating manual test scripts.
- Proven track record of using scripted test automation to improve quality, consistency and coverage within a software development environment.
- Demonstrable knowledge of creating and managing test automation frameworks.
- Experience of working in an Agile/SCRUM/DevOps delivery model.
- Experience in inputting to and managing VVRM across systems, services and capabilities.
- Working in ITEA Teams.
- Broad technology experience, with demonstrable experience of enterprise capability development (people, process and technology).
- Experience in ITEA Sampling approaches and techniques.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and processes.
- An understanding of assurance and acceptance processes.
- Test and Trial script planning experience and test automation.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Experience of IBM DOORS and JIRA tools is desirable.
- Experience with modelling and simulation technologies, including familiarity with standards such as HLA (High‑Level Architecture), DIS (Distributed Interactive Simulation), and HLA4.
- Knowledge of defence or public sector engineering standards and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience in training transformation or learning platforms.
- SAFe and ITIL4 certified.
- Knowledge of the MOD's GEAR framework.
- Testing and assurance in a training environment aligned with JSP 822.
- Experience of programming/scripting languages such as Java, Javascript, Python, Bash.
- Security cleared or ability to obtain (SC or above).
