Purpose of the Job

  • Planning and Scheduling: Plan, schedule and oversee daily, weekly and monthly manufacturing activities to meet production targets and delivery deadlines.
  • Production Oversight: Allocate resources to meet manufacturing KPI’s.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, motivate and develop a team of ~30 production staff.
  • Process Improvement: Monitor and improve performance of manufacturing and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all products are manufactured to the required standards, specifications and quality levels.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage challenging yet achievable production plans for all Raytec product ranges, ensuring optimal allocation of work to individuals and teams in Security, Hazardous, and other production areas to meet customer demand.
  • Supervise and line manage production operatives and team leaders, conducting 1:1s, appraisals, and fostering cross-skilling to enhance workforce flexibility.
  • Measure, communicate and improve manufacturing metrics. Liaise with the sales department to date future orders and communicate current lead times.
  • Work with quality and engineering to resolve issues and implement changes. Maintain compliance with standards such as ISO9001 and ISO14001 in production and dispatch areas.
  • Enforce housekeeping rules and health & safety requirements.
  • Identify, propose and implement improvement opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot production-related issues to maintain operational flow.
  • Manage A-line product builds to minimise customer lead times while maintaining sensible inventory levels. Contribute to the daily shipping list and re-dating production orders in line with changing customer requirements using SAP and other databases.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in a production management role within the manufacturing industry.
  • In-depth working knowledge of ERP / MRP systems and production planning.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience of managing teams of 10+ people.
  • Excellent people management skills, with a track record of developing teams and individuals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and across teams and departments.
  • Excellent understanding of production workflows, planning and quality control.
  • Ability to work under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly numerate and PC literate (MS Word, Excel, databases).
  • Familiarity with quality and environmental systems (e.g., ISO9001, ISO14001).

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with business improvement techniques.
  • Background in new product introduction.
  • Commitment to self-development.
  • Understanding of health & safety principles and practices.

Reporting to

This role is reporting to the Operations Manager.

Working Hours

This is a Full-Time position working 08.30 – 17:00 Monday-Thursday, 8.30-2.30 Friday as standard.

The role is based at our Head Office in Ashington, Northumberland.
