The Sustainability Manager is responsible for developing and implementing robust sustainability initiatives across strategic client sites across the company portfolio. This role blends strategy, team and client relationship management, and on-the-ground delivery, requiring a strong grasp of ESG principles and the ability to translate them into credible, measurable, and value-aligned actions.
Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, service partners, and clients, the Sustainability Manager will ensure all sustainability programmes are tailored, impactful, and aligned with both ESG regulatory requirements and the Group’s Global Planet 2030 objectives.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Strategy and Implementation
- Develop and implement bespoke sustainability strategies tailored to site-specific or client-specific needs, including any ESG KPIs agreed during bids or contractual renewal.
- Support the creation of organisational-wide sustainability policies, procedures and strategies.
- Independently manage and deliver sustainability initiatives, balancing client priorities with internal goals.
- Client Engagement & Relationship Management
- Serve as a sustainability advisor and representative in client-facing forums, helping shape material topics and long-term sustainability direction.
- Attend and contribute to monthly and quarterly KPI meetings, providing clear sustainability updates to clients.
- Translate complex sustainability concepts into persuasive and accessible communication for clients, occupiers, and internal teams.
- Sustainability Reporting
- Lead operational carbon accounting (Scope 1, 2, and 3) for machinery, materials, and consumables, in line with GHG Protocol, supporting SBTi-aligned target setting.
- Develop and maintain TOMs-aligned social value reporting tools to assess and demonstrate impact.
- Produce sustainability performance reports for clients, including input into award submissions and formal sustainability and ESG disclosures.
- Stakeholder Training and Communication
- Support awareness-raising through ESG officer programmes, training, and internal comms.
- Contribute sustainability content for social media and stakeholder updates, in collaboration with the communications team.
- Speak at internal or client events to represent sustainability priorities and share progress with wider audiences.
- Partnerships and Charitable Engagement
- Build and sustain partnerships with local charities, ensuring social initiatives are credible, community-led and aligned with client expectations.
- Develop and deliver social engagement calendars that involve cleaning teams, clients and service partners.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration and Support
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., HR, procurement, operations) to integrate sustainability into daily business activities.
- Support Account Directors when required to advise on sustainability or contribute to bids, reports, or award submissions.
What We’re Looking For
- Essential
- Experience in sustainability, ESG, sustainability, or environmental management (corporate or operational setting).
- Experience working directly with clients to shape sustainability approaches.
- Proven ability to develop and implement sustainability strategies independently.
- Familiarity with Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon calculations (GHG Protocol).
- Desirable
- Understanding of sustainability reporting frameworks (GRI, CDP, ISSB).
- Professional certification in sustainability or ESG (IEMA, ISSP, etc.).
- Experience with TOMs framework or social value accounting.
- Professional certification in sustainability or ESG (ISEP, ICRS, ISSP, etc.).
- Experience with Environmental and Energy Management Systems (ISO 14001 and ISO 50001).
