What to Expect
You’ll join Raylo’s growing Risk Operations team at a pivotal time, reporting to the Senior Risk Operations Manager. The team is central to ensuring we scale responsibly, protecting the business from fraud and credit risks while enabling a smooth, compliant customer experience.
This is a player-coach role: you’ll spend around 40% of your time leading, mentoring, and developing a team of KYC and Fraud Investigators, providing guidance, managing workflows, and ensuring excellent team performance. The remaining 60% of your time will be hands-on, taking ownership of complex risk cases, refining fraud detection strategies, and working cross-functionally to improve our risk controls.
Short-term, you’ll embed structure, rigour, and energy into our day-to-day risk operations. Longer-term, you’ll play a key part in scaling our risk processes, helping to build a best-in-class function that balances security, customer experience, and commercial outcomes as we continue to grow.
What You’ll Do
- Lead, coach, and manage the day-to-day performance of the Risk Operations team of 4 associates, conducting regular 1:1s and performance reviews.
- Act as the key escalation point for complex KYC, fraud, and consumer credit cases, providing guidance to the team.
- Oversee the execution of fraud investigations and ensure risk cases are escalated in line with regulatory requirements.
- Drive the development and improvement of our customer onboarding, verification, and credit decisioning workflows.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with the Risk Strategy, Operations, and Compliance teams to enhance risk frameworks.
- Maintain and instil in the team an up-to-date knowledge of FCA compliance, consumer credit, and anti-money laundering regulations.
- Identify inefficiencies and lead automation projects and process innovations to improve team productivity.
- Develop team reporting and analyse performance data using tools such as Looker, Google Sheets, or Excel.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, sharing knowledge and best practices to develop junior team members and uphold team standards.
You’ll Succeed With
- 2+ years of direct people management experience, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management within an operations or risk team.
- 3–5 years of experience in a consumer credit role within an FCA-regulated business, with a strong background in areas such as fraud prevention, KYC, or credit risk.
- Strong working knowledge of AML, CDD, consumer credit principles, and regulatory compliance standards.
- Proficiency in using fraud detection/KYC tools and platforms.
- High attention to detail and a strong analytical mindset, with the ability to spot anomalies and trends.
- Experience working with Excel/Google Sheets and data tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A proactive, collaborative approach to leadership, with a passion for continuous improvement and sustainability.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and work independently.
