We are looking for an experienced Credit Controller to join our busy Finance team, based in our St Albans office. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive, friendly environment with outstanding opportunities to grow and develop.
Key Responsibilities
- Main contact for internal and external finance queries; resolve issues and negotiate payment solutions
- Manage overdue/aged debt in line with procedures; monitor balances and elevate where needed
- Support fee earners with collection of monies on account and advise on credit decisions, including placing matters on hold
- Lead monthly review calls with partners to drive billing and cash collection
- Conduct welcome calls with new clients to explain billing and payment expectations
- Calculate and post interest on overdue debt; identify and process small write-offs
- Produce client statements and monthly compliance/management reports
- Provide occasional support to the legal cashiering team during busy periods or absence
Skills & Experience
- 5+ years' credit control experience (legal sector preferred; family law advantageous)
- Strong communicator by phone and email; confident with clients and internal stakeholders
- Highly organised, accurate, and able to manage competing deadlines
- Good knowledge of Excel and financial systems
- Understanding of Solicitors Accounts Rules desirable
- Positive, proactive, discreet, and team-focused
