Ray McKenzie and son LTD is seeking an experienced Spray Painter/Furniture Finishing specialist to join our team in Nelson Central Tasman. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality finishing work to our clients. As a specialist in furniture finishing and spray painting, you will be responsible for applying professional finishes to bespoke furniture and cabinetry pieces, ensuring every project meets our exacting standards. This role is integral to maintaining our reputation for excellence in the carpentry and cabinet-making industry.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces and materials for finishing work, including sanding, cleaning and priming to industry standards
- Apply spray finishes, stains and protective coatings to furniture and cabinetry using specialised spray equipment and techniques
- Conduct quality control inspections throughout the finishing process to ensure consistency and adherence to specifications
- Maintain accurate records of materials used, finishing methods employed and project timelines
- Operate and maintain spray painting equipment, ensuring proper setup, cleaning and safety protocols are followed
- Collaborate with the carpentry team to understand project requirements and deliver finishes that complement bespoke designs
- Advise on finishing options and best practices to ensure optimal results and client satisfaction
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and company procedures
What we're looking for
- Proven experience as a spray painter or furniture finisher, ideally within the carpentry or cabinet-making industry
- Proficiency in operating spray painting equipment, including HVLP systems, air sprayers and other specialised finishing tools
- Strong knowledge of different finishing materials, including lacquers, varnishes, stains and protective coatings
- Ability to achieve consistent, high-quality finishes with attention to detail and precision
- Sound understanding of surface preparation techniques and best practices
- Competence in health and safety procedures, particularly relating to spray painting and hazardous materials handling
- Strong work ethic with a commitment to delivering excellent results within project timelines
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
- Excellent communication skills and attention to client requirements
- A valid driver's licence would be advantageous
