About us
We’re an environment, social and governance (‘ESG’) and sustainability consultancy that helps medium and large companies do better things for people and the environment. Our primary services are developing ESG strategies, and developing carbon/Net Zero strategies.
Clients choose us over other consultancies for two reasons – the quality of our service (in-depth technical expertise coupled with slick delivery), and because we’re pragmatic – we focus on what companies can and will do, and enabling that, rather than blue-ski thinking. Ultimately we want to see our recommendations put into practice.
Our clients stay with us, and keep coming back to us, because we don’t act like consultants – we become part of our clients’ teams, we always over-deliver, and we effectively and transparently manage our projects to meet all deadlines.
We’ve been in business for seven years and are a tiny but mighty team of three. Historically we have used contractors to support with operational delivery but with a hefty pipeline of work on the books we want to grow our internal team.

The role
This GHG & Net Zero Senior Consultant role is for a brilliant numbers geek who knows the ins- and outs- of all things carbon – footprint measurement, target setting (including science-based targets) and abatement plan modelling.
You’ll be responsible for leading our greenhouse gas (GHG) projects from initial planning through to full delivery, including regular client meetings and diligent project management.
Each project is unique and has layers of complexity that you must navigate and relish. This might be the application of supplier-specific emissions and baseline changes; expansion of emissions measurement to the latest best practice (e.g. FLAG emissions); keeping abreast of the detail changes of the Science-Based Target (SBT) requirements; and modelling the impact of reduction measures in unique ways.
The importance of accurate data manipulation cannot be understated. You must intuitively know how to check your work in multiple ways and be adept at producing new calculations to best represent the data in question. Whilst we have templates to use, these are guides. We need a free-thinker who can translate the real world situation into a completely bespoke client approach, and you must be able to use graphs and other tools to simply convey what is ultimately a very complex thing.
Beyond the obvious data analysis aptitude, a key component of this role is communication as you will be client facing. That means attending client meetings (via Teams); using interviews, workshops and emails to gather and unpick client information; and generally being a personable character to deal with. What we want here is someone who is polite, friendly, but crucially also with a natural ability to turn technical carbon/data language into user-friendly terms.
Your responsibilities
- Project management. For each project we collectively agree a project plan with the client. You’ll be responsible for shaping these plans and ensuring that your elements are tracked and delivered on time.
- GHG footprint measurement. Initially we will need you to get involved with scope 1, 2 & 3 data measurement (data collection, entry and manipulation in Excel) but overtime we foresee more of this being outsourced or delegated to other team members whose work you will oversee.
- Target setting and abatement analysis. You will need to take a two-pronged approach here. You must be able to conduct a ‘top-down’ analysis of what good looks like (e.g. what targets client stakeholders expect coupled with what the SBTi best practice requires) and a ‘bottom-up’ analysis of what is possible. The latter involves modelling unabated emissions growth and the impact of reduction measures to project what emission reductions are possible and how Net Zero can be achieved.
- Net Zero strategy development. You need to be able to take the findings from your analysis and put them into a clear, concise and practical Net Zero delivery plan for the client.
- Target and data tracking. You must be adept at critically reviewing data for accuracy and analysing the source of data changes, for example, why GHG emissions have changed year-on-year and how these changes will impact the client’s ability to meet their GHG targets.
- Documenting methodologies. Writing formal methodology statements for the process undertaken and making recommendations for process improvement opportunities.
- Communicating. Communicating findings with clients and auditors, through slide-decks and Teams calls in a professional and well-presented manner.
Whilst these are the core responsibilities of the role we are a small business and there are huge opportunities for projects and personal development outside of these. When client work is quiet we will ask you to support with business improvement projects. This allows you to develop new skills in business areas that you are keen to learn about.
Who you are
You must live and breathe (no pun intended!) GHG emissions in this role. If you aren’t interested in the GHG Protocol and Science-Based Targets and you don’t love Excel then this isn’t the role for you. The other important pre-requisites for this role are:
- You must have a degree in a science-based subject.
- You must have measured scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions including supplier-specific scope 3 emissions for at least two companies.
- You must have previously developed carbon reduction plans, including Net Zero plans.
- You must have taken a company through the SBTi target setting process.
- You must be excellent with Excel. This means being speedy, accurate, adept at spotting errors and skilled at building in checks that prevent errors occurring.
- You must like to make your work look pretty. We believe in high quality presentation that matches the high quality content.
- You must be a self-starter. You will be given freedom to operate but need to be self-motivated and confident to ask questions.
- You must have good communication skills. This means being a proficient writer, adept at presenting via MS Teams and skilled at responding to challenging questions articulately.
- You must be comfortable and engaging when presenting to and working with senior management and executive teams.
- You must be organised. Our projects are complex and you must be efficient at tracking and driving progress.
Benefits
- Pension.
- Annual medical check.
- Choice in company charitable donations for the year (we give a minimum of 1% per annum to community/charity causes).
- Genuine flexible work.
- Development opportunities. As a small business we don’t offer formal training programs but we have hands-on business experience that we can offer in abundance.
