We are a fast-growing, dynamic company with a passion for building high-quality software that makes a real impact on our users and their businesses internationally, with a current focus on the Performing & Creative Arts industries.
As we enter an exciting new phase of growth, we are expanding our team and product capabilities around our Class Manager platform. We pride ourselves on our collaborative, innovative, and friendly culture. We\'re looking for a talented and driven individual to join us on this journey.
The Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced full‑stack engineer to step into a pivotal, newly created leadership role at a time we’re transitioning to two agile development teams. One focused on our core platform (Core team), with the new team (Projects) focused initially on a couple of larger, groundbreaking features.
As our Lead Developer within this new Projects team, you will be at the heart of our product\'s evolution, taking a lead in the implementation of some major features coming into our new Class Manager platform.
Working in close partnership with our Head of Product, you will be a hands‑on technical leader, responsible for architecting, building, and deploying exciting new features. Beyond your project focus, you will, alongside our Core team and in particular our Lead Developer within this team, play a crucial role in mentoring the wider development team, championing best practices, and shaping a world‑class engineering culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end‑to‑end design, development, and deployment of new features and services for our Class Manager platform.
- Take ownership of a major new workstream, defining its technical architecture and roadmap in collaboration with product leadership.
- Collaborate closely with our Head of Product to translate product requirements into robust, scalable, and elegant technical solutions.
- Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code across our full stack (Laravel APIs and React front‑end).
- Co‑lead the engineering team as a whole alongside our existing Lead Developer (Core), mentoring junior and mid‑level developers through code reviews, pair programming, and one‑on‑one guidance.
- Champion and implement engineering best practices, including modern CI/CD pipelines, comprehensive testing strategies, and clear documentation.
- Actively contribute to a positive, innovative, and collaborative culture across the entire business where individuals can learn and thrive.
Skills & Experience – Essential
- Proven commercial experience as a full‑stack developer in a professional environment.
- Strong proficiency in PHP and extensive experience with the Laravel framework for building RESTful APIs.
- Solid understanding of relational databases, specifically MySQL, including schema design and query optimisation.
- Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, with knowledge of serverless architectures (AWS Lambda, API Gateway… ran via Bref/Serverless Framework).
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership or senior mentorship capacity, with a passion for helping others to develop.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas to non‑technical stakeholders.
- A proactive and product‑focused mindset, with a desire to build high‑quality software that delights users.
Skills & Experience – Highly Desirable
- Experience with cross‑platform mobile development using React Native.
- Experience working in a fast‑growing startup or scale‑up environment.
- Knowledge of modern DevOps practices and infrastructure‑as‑code (with an AWS focus).
- Excellent knowledge of security best practices.
- Database: MySQL.
- Infrastructure: Serverless on AWS.
What We Offer
- A competitive salary and career progression opportunities.
- A generous holiday allowance of 25 days per year, increasing with length of service.
