The Opportunity

Our client, an established M&E contractor, is opening a new branch in Warrington to serve the North-West and they are looking for the person who will lead that expansion commercially. You would be the tip of the spear: building the regional pipeline, opening the relationships and establishing the business’s presence and reputation in a market where it is not yet a known name.

The advantage is that you would not be selling a start-up. The business has been trading since the early 2000s, works with some of the UK’s largest main contractors, and has a delivery track record strong enough that repeat business accounts for more than 75% of annual turnover. That is a genuinely unusual figure in M&E contracting, and it means you would be going to market with something that demonstrably works, rather than a promise. It is a senior appointment with real autonomy and visible impact.

About the Business

Our client is an established mechanical and electrical contractor delivering integrated M&E solutions across the UK. Their service runs from in-house design and development through mechanical and electrical installation to facilities management and renewables, which means clients can procure a complete solution from one business rather than coordinating multiple contractors. Their project portfolio spans education, hotels, retail and mixed use, residential, commercial, industrial, healthcare, and aerospace, transport and infrastructure. Their client base includes a number of the UK’s most recognisable main contractors and developers, and the relationships tend to be long-standing rather than transactional, hence that repeat business figure. Accreditations are held and maintained at the highest available levels, including Constructionline, CHAS, SMAS, Gas Safe, NAPIT and MCS. This is a business that has grown steadily on the strength of delivery, and the North-West expansion is a considered step rather than a speculative one.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the commercial establishment of a new North-West branch, building the regional pipeline from the ground up
  • Identifying, targeting and winning new business with main contractors, developers and end clients across the region
  • Building and maintaining long-term relationships that generate repeat work, in line with how the business already operates elsewhere
  • Developing a clear regional market strategy: which sectors to target, which clients to prioritise and how to position the business
  • Working closely with the estimating and pre-construction teams to convert opportunities into properly qualified, winnable tenders
  • Representing the business at industry events, client meetings and framework opportunities across the North-West
  • Managing the sales pipeline, reporting on activity, conversion and forecast to senior leadership
  • Feeding market intelligence back into the business to shape how the regional offer develops

What We're Looking For

  • A proven business development track record within M&E, MEP or building services contracting
  • An established network within the North-West construction market, particularly among main contractors and developers
  • Genuine appetite for building something: this is a market entry, not the management of an existing regional pipeline
  • Commercially credible, with enough technical understanding of M&E delivery to hold a serious conversation with a client
  • Confident operating autonomously, with the self-direction to set priorities and drive activity without close supervision
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with a focus on long-term repeat business rather than one-off wins
  • Full UK driving licence

What's on Offer

  • £70,000 - £90,000 salary based on experience
  • Full company benefits package
  • The opportunity to lead a regional launch and own the North-West market for an established business
  • A genuinely strong proposition to take to market, backed by a 75% repeat business record
  • Real autonomy, senior visibility and a direct line to the impact of your own work
