The Opportunity

If you're an M&E Quantity Surveyor with a background in projects and you're looking for something with a bit more sector variety than a standard construction contractor can offer, this is a role worth looking at. Our client is a specialist M&E engineering contractor based in Cheshire, working across industrial, food and drink production, FMCG manufacturing, pharmaceutical and commercial environments. They partner with some of the UK's most well-known brands across these sectors, delivering complex mechanical and electrical engineering solutions from initial design through to commissioning and ongoing maintenance.

This is a permanent QS appointment covering the full commercial cycle across a varied portfolio of M&E projects. It's a role that requires someone who can operate with confidence across technically demanding environments and is comfortable working closely with both delivery and client teams.

About the Business

Our client is a well-established M&E engineering specialist with national reach and a strong Cheshire base. Their capability spans mechanical services, electrical engineering, HVAC, design and planned and reactive maintenance, all delivered in-house. That breadth means the projects they run tend to be technically involved and genuinely varied, which makes for a more interesting commercial environment than you'd find on a standard construction portfolio. They work with some of the largest and most recognisable names in food and drink, FMCG, pharmaceutical and industrial sectors, which reflects the level of trust they've built through consistent delivery. Accreditations include ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, with a clear commitment to health, safety and environmental standards throughout their operations. The business has continued to grow its project and maintenance portfolio and is well-positioned to keep doing so. For a QS who wants to work on projects with genuine technical substance and a client list that reflects real commercial scale, it stands out from a lot of what is out there at this level.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Managing the full commercial cycle on M&E contracts from pre-contract through to final account
  • Preparing and submitting applications for payment and valuations in line with contract terms
  • Managing subcontract procurement, letting and commercial administration
  • Tracking variations and producing accurate change control records throughout delivery
  • Preparing cost value reconciliations (CVRs) and cost-to-completion forecasts
  • Supporting tendering and pre-construction activity with commercial input at bid stage
  • Working closely with project and engineering teams to provide clear commercial guidance on site
  • Attending client and internal commercial meetings and representing the business at project level
  • Ensuring accurate and timely month-end reporting to senior management

What We're Looking For

  • A solid M&E contracting background, with demonstrable experience managing the full QS remit from award through to final account
  • Experience on industrial, process, food and drink, pharmaceutical or FMCG projects is advantageous but not essential
  • Sound working knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contract forms
  • Confident handling variations, cost reporting and subcontract administration independently
  • A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage credibly with clients, engineers and project teams

What's on Offer

  • £60,000 - £75,000 depending on experience
  • Full company benefits package
  • A technically varied project portfolio across specialist sectors with well-known end clients
  • In-house design and engineering capability that produces better-joined-up delivery
  • A business with a clear growth trajectory and a genuinely strong market position
