Design Lead - to be a manager in Wigan

Job Description Overview We are currently seeking an M&E Design Manager in Wigan to lead design coordination and technical delivery across a busy portfolio of building services projects.
This is a key role for someone who can take ownership of the design process from early concept through to construction support, ensuring solutions are coordinated, compliant, buildable and commercially sensible. Youll work closely with pre-construction, commercial and operations teams to keep programmes moving and eliminate design risk early.
About the Company Our client is a well-established engineering services contractor delivering mechanical and electrical building services works across multiple sectors, with in-house capability covering design, installation and long-term maintenance support.
They have a strong pipeline and are strengthening their design leadership to maintain quality and consistency as workload grows.
What Youll Be Doing Leading M&E design delivery across multiple projects, from concept through to detailed designManaging design programmes, deliverables, and technical queries to keep projects movingCoordinating internal and external design teams, including consultants and supply chain designersDriving buildability, compliance, and risk management throughout the design processReviewing and approving calculations, specifications, drawings and equipment selectionsChairing design workshops and meetings, ensuring actions are closed and decisions recordedManaging design change control and ensuring technical decisions align with commercial and delivery requirementsWorking closely with BIM / CAD resource to ensure coordination and clash resolutionSupporting pre-construction activities, including tender design input and scope clarityProviding construction support, responding to RFIs, and ensuring designs are delivered through to commissioning and handoverSkills & Experience Required Proven experience in M&E design management or senior building services design (contractor or consultancy background)Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical building services systems and coordinationConfidence managing design programmes, stakeholders, and competing prioritiesGood knowledge of UK regulations and common industry standardsExperience working within BIM-coordinated environments (Revit experience beneficial)Strong communication skills with a practical, solutions-led approachOrganised and detail-focused, with a tidy approach to documentation and reportingDegree/HND/HNC in Building Services Engineering (or equivalent experience)Benefits Salary: £65,000 - £75,000 depending on experienceCompany benefits packageSenior role with influence across design standards and project outcomesStable pipeline and long-term opportunity within an established contractor
