We are seeking an exceptional senior midwifery leader to join CUH as Director of Midwifery & Deputy Chief Nurse. This is a key executive leadership role, accountable to the Chief Nurse, with responsibility for the strategic leadership, professional oversight and operational delivery of maternity services across the Rosie Hospital and the local community.
You will act as:
- The professional lead for midwifery and maternity services
- A champion for women-centred, safe and high-quality care
- A corporate leader, deputising for the Chief Nurse and holding a Trust-wide portfolio, including leadership of the inclusivity and equity agenda across nursing and midwifery
You will work closely with system partners across the Integrated Care System (ICS) and represent CUH at local, regional and national level.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and professional leadership for maternity and midwifery services
- Ensure delivery of safe, compassionate, high-quality maternity care
- Lead workforce planning, recruitment, retention and professional development
- Drive delivery of national priorities including CNST, Saving Babies’ Lives Care Bundle, Better Births and Maternity Transformation
- Act as a senior advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion, particularly for nurses and midwives from ethnically diverse backgrounds
- Provide expert advice to the Trust Board, Chief Nurse and Executive Team
- Lead quality, governance, risk management and patient experience improvement
- Represent the Trust with regulators, professional bodies and partner organisations
- Deputise for the Chief Nurse as required
About You
- A registered midwife with current NMC registration
- Educated to Master’s level (or equivalent experience)
- An experienced senior leader with Head of Midwifery or equivalent experience
- Highly skilled in strategic leadership, change management and partnership working
- Passionate about women-centred care, quality improvement and workforce development
- Confident operating at Board and system level
- Committed to living and promoting CUH’s values of Safe, Kind and Excellent
