About the Role

Working as part of a dedicated Portfolio Management team, steadily building on core knowledge to actively support construction, management and monitoring of investment portfolios for a wide and varied client base (individuals, institutions and funds) to achieve financial goals whilst balancing risk and return. Role will have close supervision and management oversight to ensure good client outcomes through strong investment performance. Associate Portfolio Manager marks progression from the Wealth Trainee role, with some responsibility, under close supervision, to help with the management of a smaller, less complex book of clients.

On this occasion, the Bournemouth office are open to considering candidates that are both less and more experienced. They are open to hiring an individual that still needs to complete the IAD (level 4 qualification), or someone who may have already completed their level 7 qualification, at the commensurate level and job title.

What you'll be responsible for:

  • Investment Strategy, Portfolio Construction and Technical Expertise: Start to use systems, tools and knowledge to support the process to define and implement investment strategies based on clients' risk tolerance, financial goals and investment horizons. Under supervision, ensure investment portfolios aligned with client objectives and market conditions. Within Rathbones portfolio management strategy, be able to recommend specific asset selection and determine the optimal asset allocation to build the portfolio. Thorough understanding of Rathbones investment process, when instructed, be able to conduct additional research and analysis to support client requirements and outcomes. Build good understanding of Rathbones proposition, commercial awareness of the wider market and clear knowledge of the regulatory framework. Build a working knowledge of the Front Office Process Guides and Operating Model Summary and Investment Risk procedures.
  • Market and Performance Monitoring: Be aware of financial markets, economic trends and geopolitical events to ensure informed investment recommendations can be made. Support and assist the tracking of the performance of aligned portfolios and start to recommend adjustments as needed (such as rebalancing to maintain the desired asset allocation).
  • Risk Management: Be able to identify, assess and manage or escalate risks associated with investments. Possess a basic working knowledge of the Front Office Process Guides and Operating Model Summary and Investment Risk procedures. Understand how to use performance and health check data to assess portfolio risks and take action/escalate to manage accordingly.
  • Client Engagement: Work in partnership within PM teams and, where appropriate, engaging with IMs in support of client meetings and client relations.
  • Business Performance & Growth: Contribution towards strong, consistent, risk-adjusted investment performance, aligned to the central Rathbones investment philosophy. Demonstrate commercial awareness and contribute to the firm's growth initiatives.
  • Team Contribution & Leadership: Buddy and support other junior team members, sharing expertise and fostering development. Actively participate in internal forums/committees and business projects as required. Promote a collaborative culture and uphold the firm's values and standards.

About you:

  • Level 4 CISI Investment Advice Diploma (both Securities and Financial Planning and Advice modules)
  • Experience in financial services, portfolio, investments or client-facing roles.
  • Exposure to portfolio management, suitability reviews, and client reporting.
  • Familiarity with business development activities and relationship/stakeholder management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding and articulation of Rathbones proposition, portfolio and investment process and Research capabilities.
  • Awareness of quantitative methods, financial math, statistics and economics.
  • Early research and analytical skills.
  • Understand portfolio construction and valuation and pricing techniques.
  • Grounding in relevant IT systems.
  • Awareness of regulatory environment and compliance standards.
