In this role you will play a key role in ensuring that every proposition Rathbones offers delivers, sustains, and can clearly evidence good client outcomes throughout its lifecycle. You will be key to embedding the identification, prevention, monitoring, and remediation of foreseeable harm within proposition design and governance. This includes ensuring propositions are suitable for their defined target markets, represent fair value and support consumer understanding in line with consumer duty. You will own the governance infrastructure that enables this: the frameworks, forums, documentation, metrics, and decision‑making cadences that ensure propositions are consistently well‑defined, properly challenged, and actively managed in the interests of clients.
What you’ll be responsible for:
- Proposition governance and outcomes‑based decision‑making
- Maintain and evolve the proposition governance framework so that good client outcomes and foreseeable harm are explicit decision criteria at every lifecycle gate.
- Own the forums, terms of reference, decision rights, escalation routes, and documentation standards that underpin proposition governance.
- Provide secretariat and, where appropriate, chairing support for proposition governance forums.
- Ensure governance decisions are evidence‑led, outcome‑focused, and consistently applied across the proposition set.
- Lifecycle management with embedded harm prevention
- Operate the proposition lifecycle as an outcome‑focused process covering:
- New proposition development and approval.
- Material changes and re‑approvals.
- Controlled withdrawal where propositions no longer deliver good outcomes or present unacceptable harm.
- Ensure foreseeable harm is assessed at design stage and revisited whenever propositions, markets, or client behaviours change.
You will also:
- Own and operate the Rathbones’ fair value assessment programme for in‑scope propositions.
- Ensure every proposition has a clearly defined, evidenced target market.
- Define and operate proposition performance metrics and ensure insight from metrics informs governance decisions and lifecycle action.
- Maintain the proposition hub and library as the authoritative source of truth for proposition information.
- Act as the authoritative first‑line voice on proposition governance, client outcomes, and foreseeable harm across the Wealth division.
About you:
- Substantial experience in UK wealth management, advice, or asset management, with accountability for product/ proposition governance, lifecycle management, fair value, or Consumer Duty delivery.
- Practical experience of identifying, evidencing, and addressing foreseeable harm within product or proposition frameworks.
- A strong track record of building or operating governance infrastructure that drives real decisions and action.
- The judgement and credibility to operate confidently with senior stakeholders and to challenge constructively where outcomes are at risk.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, disciplined, regulator‑ready documentation.
- Experience supporting regulatory engagement or thematic reviews relating to products, fair value, or Consumer Duty.
- Experience of remediation activity following poor outcomes or harm events.
- Familiarity with vulnerable customer considerations and accessibility in proposition design.
Our offer to you:
- A company pension - 9% non-contributory or 10% if you contribute 5%
- Private medical insurance – Individual on joining, family after 1 year’s service
- Life assurance - 8 x salary
- Company share scheme
- Discretionary bonus
- Flexible holidays – purchase up to 5 additional days
- Green Car Scheme
- Family friendly policies – enhanced family leave for parents & carers
- Study support – study days and funding for courses and qualifications
- Season travel ticket loans
- Other voluntary benefits you can choose to suit you
