You'll be the heartbeat of our accounts payable and receivable functions at Rat & Boa. As a trusted expert in our payment processes and systems, you'll empower teams across the business with your expertise, helping us scale smarter while delivering a seamless and reliable finance experience - both internally and externally. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone early in their finance career to gain broad exposure across a growing, founder‑led fashion brand, working closely with the Management Accountant and Financial Controller.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Payable & Supplier Management
- Process invoices and credit notes accurately, ensuring they are approved and correctly recorded in Xero on a timely basis.
- Take ownership of our weekly payment runs, ensuring suppliers are paid accurately, on time and with a seamless experience from start to finish.
- Reconcile stock supplier statements and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Control the purchasing of products and services from external suppliers through PO number issuing, ensuring accurate purchase order matching and approvals.
- Manage the onboarding of new suppliers, including verification of supplier and bank details and setup in the finance system.
- Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers to resolve invoice and payment queries.
- Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements and automation initiatives within accounts payable.
- Ecommerce gateway reconciliations (Shopify, PayPal, Clearpay).
- Accounts Receivable & Sales
- Assist with sales invoicing to our wholesale partners.
- Keep day‑to‑day accounts receivable operations running smoothly, ensuring all transactions are processed accurately.
- Month‑End & Reporting Support
- Assist the Management Accountant with month‑end closing activities, including accruals and prepayments.
- Maintain clean, accurate and audit‑ready financial records through regular bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile credit card statements for department cards.
- Provide support on travel and expense claims.
- Finance Operations & Inbox
- Act as one of the main points of contact for the Finance department, monitoring the finance inbox and responding to queries in a timely and professional manner.
- Oversee daily financial operations, ensuring all tasks are carried out accurately and within specified timeframes.
- Build strong relationships across the business and with external partners by delivering responsive, solutions‑focused support for all payment and finance queries.
- Assist in the development and implementation of finance processes and procedures.
- Support the Financial Controller and Management Accountant with ad hoc projects and reporting as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in an accounts payable or accounts assistant role.
- Experience using Xero accounting software - essential.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and accounts payable processes.
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Extremely detail‑oriented, organised and able to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Great communication skills, both written and verbal, with an eye for numbers.
- Ability to work independently where required, with initiative and a proactive mindset.
- A positive, flexible and hands‑on attitude - ready to roll up your sleeves and embrace change.
- Retail or e‑commerce experience preferred.
- Excited about the opportunity of working in the fashion and e‑commerce sector.
- Study support towards an accountancy qualification (AAT / ACCA / ACA / CIMA).
