The Opportunity
Are you passionate about transforming the lives of young people? Do you thrive in an environment where every day offers a fresh challenge and every interaction has a purpose? We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and proactive Pastoral Lead to join an alternative education provision in Mansfield. This is a pivotal role situated at the absolute heart of our provision, directly supporting the wellbeing, personal development, and academic success of students-many of whom navigate complex needs, SEND profiles, or historic barriers to learning.
About the Role
As Pastoral Lead, you will play a central role in cultivating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where students feel valued, respected, and heard. Collaborating closely with multi-disciplinary teams, parents/carers, and external agencies, you will work strategically and practically to dismantle barriers to education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily Support & Intervention: Provide daily pastoral care, wellbeing support, and deliver targeted 1:1 interventions and tutorial support.
- Conflict Resolution: Offer effective mediation, conflict resolution, and structured student de-briefs.
- Student Advocacy: Facilitate student voice initiatives, including student councils, feedback questionnaires, and forums.
- Collaborative Safeguarding: Support attendance, behaviour management, and safeguarding processes; attend multi-agency and safeguarding meetings as required.
- Holistic Wellbeing: Assist with the delivery of PSHE and broader, whole-school wellbeing initiatives.
- Data & Reporting: Accurately record, monitor, and analyse pastoral data to directly inform and improve individual student programmes.
- Leadership Support: Provide operational cover and line management responsibilities where required.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will be a reflective, solution-focused practitioner capable of maintaining a calm and reassuring presence in challenging situations.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualifications: A Level 3 qualification (or above) in a relevant field, alongside Level 2 English and Maths.
- Pastoral Expertise: Extensive professional experience within a dedicated pastoral or wellbeing role.
- Specialist Experience: Proven experience supporting young people with SEND, ASC, or complex mental health needs.
- Safeguarding Knowledge: A comprehensive, up-to-date understanding of safeguarding protocols within an educational context.
- De-escalation Skills: Demonstrated ability to utilise a wide range of positive strategies to successfully de-escalate challenging behaviour.
- Teamwork: A highly collaborative approach with the ability to work seamlessly within a multi-disciplinary framework. Experience operating within a school, Alternative Provision (AP), or college environment is highly desirable but not essential.
Why Join Us?
This role offers the opportunity to become a key figure in shaping a genuinely therapeutic, welcoming educational environment. You will be part of a team that believes no young person should be left behind, giving you the autonomy and support to make a measurable, daily impact on their futures.
