AWS Cloud Solutions Architect - Remote - 6 Month Contract - Inside IR35
- Reporting Line: Principal Architect (with dotted line to Head of Cloud Transformation)

Job Purpose & Summary
My Client is seeking a mature, self-starting AWS Cloud Domain Solution Architect to join an established architecture team on a contract basis.
In this role, you will lead the AWS cloud strategy, drive cloud migrations, maintain a strict "Security-First" posture, and conduct critical security assessments for incoming SaaS products.
You will act as a technical leader-translating complex business requirements into strategic roadmaps, governing HLD/LLD artifacts, enforcing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) automation, and overseeing 3rd-party vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Delivery: Create, maintain, and govern High-Level Designs (HLD) and Low-Level Designs (LLD), along with detailed architecture diagrams and technical roadmaps.
- Cloud Strategy & Migration: Oversee cloud migrations and modernization initiatives across AWS, ensuring alignment with Enterprise Architecture.
- Performance & FinOps: Perform architecture reviews focused on performance tuning, reliability, and cost optimisation.
Security & SaaS Assurance
- Security-First Posture: Champion security best practices across all cloud, digital, and data platform designs.
- SaaS Security Assessments: Conduct technical security and risk assessments on candidate 3rd-party SaaS tools and external software solutions.
- IaC Automation: Drive standards around Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
- Vendor Management: Provide technical oversight, quality control, and governance for external 3rd-party suppliers and engineering partners.
- Kubernetes & Containerization: Guide containerisation strategies, Kubernetes deployment patterns, and modern microservices designs.
- Translate complex business unit requirements into clear, actionable technical blueprints.
- Facilitate technical workshops and advocate for AWS/Digital platform adoption across the business.
- Collaborate closely with Senior Leadership, Enterprise Architecture, Security Architecture, and Operations teams.
Core Qualifications & Requirements
- Containers & Orchestration: Solid experience with Kubernetes and containerized environments.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Advanced automation experience using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
- Security & Compliance: Proven track record in cloud security controls, DevSecOps principles, and vendor/SaaS security evaluation.
- Cross-Domain Knowledge: Broad technical fluency across Cloud, Networking, Data, Digital Platforms, and Infrastructure.
- Proven experience acting as a technical lead across multi-disciplinary teams (developers, platform engineers, ops).
- Strong vendor management and 3rd-party governance capabilities.
- Exceptional stakeholder communication and workshop facilitation skills.
- A proactive, self-starter mindset comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
Education & Certifications
- Certification: AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional required).
- Education: BSc in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
- Team Composition: Head of Solution Architecture & Design, Principal Architect, Principal Design Engineer, 5 x Domain Solution Architects, and 1 x Business Analyst.
- Direct Line Manager: Reports directly to the Principal Architect.
