Are you a highly organised and data-driven logistics professional looking for an exciting contract opportunity within a world-leading technology company? We are seeking an Operations Manager to join our Consumer Hardware Logistics team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless flow of our innovative products to market, including phones, Nest, and Fitbit devices. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract position, critical for covering a period of leave, with an immediate start preferred. You will be joining a dynamic team during our highest volume period, ahead of a major product launch at the end of August.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- 3PL Logistics Vendor Management: You will coordinate closely with our third-party logistics (3PL) vendors. This involves understanding and communicating forecasting to anticipate daily volumes. You will manage any urgent rush orders or prioritisation needs. A key part of this will be coordinating Value Added Services (VAS), such as product labelling for compliance or rework, ensuring additional work on products is handled efficiently.
- Data Analysis & Optimisation: Leveraging your medium to advanced spreadsheet skills (ideally Google Sheets, but strong Excel experience is highly transferable), you will dive deep into our logistics data. You will analyse shipments and volume data to ensure everything is dispatched correctly. A critical aspect will be assessing forecast accuracy and evaluating how effectively our overall operation is running, identifying areas for improvement.
- Project Management & Launch Support: You will play a vital role in upcoming projects, including supporting our significant product launch at the end of August, which is our highest volume period and a time of great excitement! A key project will involve bringing up a new vendor, requiring strong project planning skills. While you won’t own this project outright, you will work alongside a full-time employee, managing workstreams, and chasing cross-functional teams to drive progress.
Who You’ll Be Working With:
You will be an integral part of a collaborative team, reporting into the Regional Lead for both forward and reverse logistics. Your direct colleagues will include three other full-time Operations Managers and the Operations Lead for EMEA logistics. You will also interact closely with two dedicated vendors focused on forecasting/data analysis and VAS/quality programs. While the primary focus of this role is forward logistics (getting products out), there may be some engagement with our reverse logistics teams.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: Approximately 2-3 years of experience in a logistics-focused role. We are not looking for deep experience, but enough to understand the fundamentals and generalities of logistics. Proven industry experience in logistics, logistics management, or a related field. This is a backfill role, so the ability to get up to speed quickly is crucial. Experience from warehousing, transportation management, or fulfilment environments (e.g., from companies like Amazon or Ocado) would be highly beneficial. Experience in brokerage isn’t the right fit. Prior experience doesn’t necessarily need to be within a tech company.
- Skills: Medium to advanced proficiency in spreadsheets (Google Sheets or Excel) for robust data analysis. Strong project planning and general project management capabilities. Excellent understanding of 3PL operations and general logistics principles. A proactive approach with strong communication skills, particularly when chasing cross-functional teams and managing external vendors.
