Type of employment: 12 months Contract
Responsibilities:
- We have 3 Power machines with 8 guests running AIX 7.2, and 2 HMCs spread across two datacentres.
- We do not use HACMP, but we do have a NIM server.
- The core application running is a Progress OpenEdge database running a Legacy application CLEAR that is used by our Industrial and commercial division.
- Graphical printing is via Streamserve running on an Oracle database.
- The storage is NPIV SAN running on Dell Unity.
- We have a skills shortage in house and would like to explore acquiring a service that would enable us to conduct the day-to-day administration activities of our Unix estate and be on call to provide overnight support in the event of a failure.
- We operate an application called AMCS Clear, an ERP specifically designed for the Waste Management industry and a critical part of our operation. This is in the process of being replaced with its more modern equivalent in the next 18 - 24 months after which we intend to extract the data and decommission.
- In the meantime we are looking to:
- Update our Documentation
- Review the DR plan and Test
- Fix any user issues or challenges with AMCS Clear functioning
- VIOS & HMC & OS upgrades
- Monitoring work to include Progress Openedge errors, replication status.
- Implement best security practices.
- We have a backlog of work we may wish to include this is subject to review and expected to be on a T&M basis
- Admin script work, to work through the cron and /local/usr/scripts.
- DR setup and testing
- Hardening r protocol removal
- General systems tidy up, e.g. removal of old disks, users, printers.
- Samba upgrade from SMBv1.
- NIM server work
- New Progress Openedge backups to SAN, currently utilising JFS2 snaps and NetBackup and from this output produce a process for restoring to test systems
- Move to local SAN, add new fibre cards and migrate physical volumes
