Title: Mechanical Fitter (Mechanical Craft Technician)
Location: Corby, Northampton
Shift: Day Shift Rota (includes weekend work)
Salary: Circa £40,000 per annum (including shift allowance)
The Company
We are undergoing substantial investment and development to drive the organisation\’s mission of being a sustainable metal provider. The successful applicant will be a time served Mechanical technician who has worked in heavy industry, carrying out maintenance craft work.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintained and repaired mill equipment as a key member of the roll stand refurbishment team.
- Inspected, rebuilt, and refurbished roll stands by disassembling units and replacing or repairing components based on technical drawings.
- Utilized specialized equipment like induction heaters and presses for fitting bearings and gears.
- Supported the tooling department and other teams with various assigned duties, including the movement of spare parts.
- Adhered to strict Health and Safety protocols and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
- Contributed to department improvement initiatives, helping to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
Required Skills and Experience
- Time-served apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering with an NVQ Level 3 qualification.
- Over two years of experience in a heavy industrial environment.
- Exceptional skills in mechanical fitting, including expertise in bearing and gear fitting using induction heaters and presses.
- Physically capable and comfortable working in demanding conditions involving grease, scale, and dust.
- Flexible and reliable with the ability to work a variable shift pattern.
- Proficient communicator with strong verbal and written skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of UK Health and Safety legislation.
- Full UK Driving Licence with access to personal vehicle.
