Overview: We are looking for an experienced Scientific Software Engineer to connect next-generation weather and climate simulation models into an operational downstream forecast ecosystem. Operating across scientific data interfaces and high-throughput workflows, you will develop specialised software applications, translate complex data formats between new simulation codes and legacy systems, and ensure critical forecast pipelines remain reliable and scalable. Key Responsibilities Scientific Application Development: Design, build, test, and maintain specialised scientific software applications in Python to underpin ongoing operational and research programmes. Data Interfaces & Format Translation: Engineer scalable data interface workflows to bridge modern simulation model outputs with downstream forecast systems, ensuring efficient format translation and pipeline longevity. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Standards: Liaise directly with scientific teams to capture technical requirements, adhere to robust Quality Assurance procedures, and contribute to software engineering best practices across Linux environments.Requirements Core Software Engineering: Strong proficiency in Python and Linux environments, with a proven track record of delivering robust, maintainable code for data-intensive or scientific applications. Geospatial & Data Workflows: Practical experience working with GIS data and handling large-scale data workflows or format translation pipelines. Engineering Best Practice: Solid experience applying Quality Assurance processes, testing standards, and clear technical documentation to ensure high software quality and maintainability.
