Randstad Student Support is recruiting Specialist Mentors to work with autistic students at the University of Exeter and/or Colleges. The role is hybrid; candidates must travel to local University/college and offer both in-person and online sessions flexibly to meet student preferences. As a Specialist Mentor, you will be a trusted advisor for students, assisting them throughout the full academic year. You will help students reflect on their academic experiences and introduce strategies to overcome barriers.

Responsibilities

  • Support students in understanding what is required of them academically
  • Develop time management and organisational skills
  • Breaking down tasks to meet deadlines
  • Manage anxiety, stress or low mood
  • Prepare for new experiences
  • Build on confidence and strengths to become an independent learner

Qualifications

All candidates must meet the qualification framework set out by the DfE. Candidates must be qualified to undergraduate degree level (level 6 minimum) and have taken extensive training in adult autism. Training may include: 6 National Autistic Society Modules (non medical helper package) and The Optimum Training Course: Autism and ADHD in Higher Education: Recognising and addressing the barriers through Non-Medical Helper (NMH) Mentoring and Study Skills Strategies.
