Specialist One-to-One Study Skills Support (SS-SpLD) | Dyslexia Support | Location: Birmingham

Rate of Pay: £28 per hour + £3.38 accrued holiday pay

Contract: Part-time, with flexible hours

Start Date: September 2026 (for the new 2026/2027 Academic Year)

We are looking for qualified specialists to support university students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs). Your Specialist Role & Key Impact:

  • Provide vital academic guidance and create individual learning plans tailored to student needs.
  • Foster independent learning by supporting students to:
    • Develop independence and build on their learning strengths.
    • Create essential strategies for organisation and time management.
    • Formulate action plans to successfully stay on track with studies.
    • Build on crucial research skills, including widening knowledge, distinguishing appropriate sources, and correctly using references.
    • Enhance reading and writing comprehension skills.

You are expected to act professionally, maintain confidentiality, and address any student concerns in a timely manner.

Mandatory Qualification Requirements:

This is a specialist, Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) funded role. Candidates must adhere strictly to the qualification framework set out by the Department for Education (DfE). You MUST possess the below qualifications as a minimum:

  • An Undergraduate Degree (Level 6 minimum) along with a Professional Membership.

Desirable skills include:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to identify ways of helping students to build on their learning strengths whilst maintaining a confidential and professional working relationship
  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to manage a caseload of students
