Do you want to use your understanding of neurodiversity to help students thrive academically? Randstad Student Support is seeking qualified, analytical, and supportive Specialist Study Skills Tutors to work with students on the autism spectrum across Scotland. In this role, you will provide essential, one-to-one academic support, helping autistic students translate their unique talents into academic success.
About the Role
As a Specialist Study Skills Tutor for autistic students, your focus is entirely on the mechanics of learning, processing information, and academic execution. You won't be teaching subject-specific course content. Instead, you will help students master executive functioning skills, decode ambiguous academic language, and build a structured approach to their coursework.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored, 1-to-1 study skills sessions designed for the cognitive and processing styles of students on the autism spectrum.
- Translate ambiguous assignment briefs or open-ended questions into clear, actionable, and linear steps.
- Teach practical strategies for advanced essay structuring, thesis development, critical thinking, and proofreading.
- Help students overcome executive functioning challenges, including time management, organising research, and overcoming 'academic paralysis.'
