Qualified Teacher (QTS) - Specialist Day School

Location: Near Cranleigh, Surrey (Dunsfold Airfield) - Driving is essential

Working Pattern: Term-time only (includes 56 days of holiday)

Salary: M1-M6

The Opportunity

Are you a Qualified Teacher (QTS) feeling constrained by massive class sizes and a lack of tailored resources? Are you looking for a setting where your teaching directly translates into life-changing, measurable progress for your pupils? We are partnering with a pioneering specialist day school to recruit an exceptional Qualified Teacher. In this role, you will lead a dedicated team of teaching assistants in a highly resourced environment, delivering tailored education to autistic children and young adults (aged 4-19). You do not need prior Special Educational Needs (SEN) experience for this role. The organisation provides exceptional, world-class training. What matters most is your passion, your standard of care, and your willingness to adapt to a highly rewarding environment. Alongside immense job satisfaction, the school offers a highly supportive team ethos, 56 days of holiday, and access to a dedicated staff break room (equipped with a massage chair!).

About the Setting

The school is situated on a unique and spacious site at Dunsfold Airfield, near Cranleigh. Their heavily resourced, predominantly indoor environment features highly equipped classrooms, adjoining sensory rooms, trampolines, and a yoga room. To ensure teachers can provide the most impactful education possible, their class sizes are exceptionally small (maximum 6 to 8 students), and learners are grouped by ability rather than age.

The Methodology (Data-Driven Teaching)

This setting proudly uses Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and is a certified CABAS provider. This is a highly data-driven, scientific approach to teaching. You will oversee the continuous "graphing" and tracking of learner progress. The school breaks new skills down into manageable tasks, heavily utilises positive reinforcement, and celebrates every micro-victory. If you have an analytical mind and love seeing your teaching strategies validated by measurable, evidence-based data, you will thrive leading a classroom here.

The Realities of the Role

We believe in full transparency so that you know exactly what to expect from the environment. As a classroom leader at this setting, you must be comfortable navigating and managing the following:

  • Challenging Behaviour: You will frequently manage complex behaviours. Crucially, the school's approach is strictly positive; they never use physical restraints, relying instead on ongoing training in proactive behavioural support and de-escalation.
  • Personal Care: While you will lead a team of support staff, a "hands-on" team ethos is required. All staff, including Teachers, assist with intimate personal care on a daily basis (toileting, feeding, dressing, and washing).
  • Physical Demands: The role is physically active, involving twisting, stooping, working at lower heights, and participating in active play and off-site community visits.

What We Are Looking For

  • Qualifications: You must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). As mentioned, previous SEN experience is not required; outstanding mainstream teachers looking to transition into a highly specialised SEN environment are warmly welcomed.
  • Characteristics: You need strong classroom leadership skills, boundless emotional resilience, a highly analytical approach to tracking progress, and deep, genuine empathy.
  • Transport: Due to the rural, unique location at Dunsfold Airfield, you must be able to drive and commute reliably.

Safeguarding & Compliance

This organisation is deeply committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. As part of the strict vetting process, all gaps in your education or employment history must be fully accounted for, and you must provide reasons for leaving all previous employment. Applicants must hold the right to work in the UK.
