Make a difference in the lives of young people with special needs! One of our fantastic partner SEN Schools is seeking passionate and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to join our specialist team! They provide a highly supportive and stimulating environment for students aged 6 to 19 who have a range of MLD and SLD needs, including autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, and associated difficulties.
School Ethos: Committed to providing an individualised, specialist approach to support their students who often have complex medical needs and sensory/physical impairments. Students are supported to manage sensory overload, anxiety, low self-esteem, low confidence, and difficulty with transitions. About the Role: Permanent position, 40 hours per week, term time only. Hourly rate: £14.77 - £16.13 per hour, leading to an annual salary of £26,391.04 - £28,821.08. You will support the Class Teacher with all aspects of the day-to-day running of the classroom and teach whole classes, groups, and individual lessons in consultation with the Class Teacher. You will lead in the absence of any Class Teachers across the school. You will play a key role in creating better outcomes and life chances for their students as they prepare for adult life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Class Teacher in carrying out the professional duties of a teacher as outlined in the Professional Standards for Teachers.
- Know and understand the Class Teacher's curriculum planning and to plan, prepare, and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individuals, small groups and/or classes, modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision.
- Provide high-quality, challenging, and differentiated educational activities and experiences through teaching a broad and balanced curriculum, aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
- Support the day-to-day running of classes across the school and take the lead in the absence of a Class teacher.
- Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school's policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
- Monitor pupils' conduct and behaviour throughout the learning process and intervene to resolve highly complex, difficult, or very challenging issues. Keep records of incidents, health and behaviour etc. as necessary.
- Ensure a high standard of personal care for the pupils, carefully monitoring the health and well-being of the pupils, informing the care staff, medical staff and any other relevant professionals of any concerns.
What We're Looking For:
- The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification is required.
- GCSE pass above C (or 4 in the new GCSE system) in English and Maths.
- Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, SLD/PMLD, ADHD and ASD.
- Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
- Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
- Able to work within the parameters of the physical demands of the job role.
