Job Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Head of Projects to lead our team of Project Managers and oversee the successful delivery of all live D&B projects. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in project management within the construction sector, specifically D&B, and will possess exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management:

    • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 6-7 Project Managers, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.

    • Conduct regular one-to-one meetings and performance reviews to support the team and ensure their objectives are met.

    • Provide guidance and support to Project Managers in resolving complex project issues and challenges.

    • Allocate projects to Project Managers based on their skills, experience, and current workload.

  • Project Oversight and Delivery:

    • Oversee a portfolio of 6-7 live projects simultaneously, ranging in value from £2 million to £12 million.

    • Maintain a high-level view of all projects, monitoring progress, budgets, and timelines to ensure they align with company objectives.

    • Act as the escalation point for Project Managers, clients, and subcontractors on critical project matters.

    • Conduct regular site visits to ensure project quality, safety compliance, and adherence to design specifications.

    • Chair and attend key project meetings, including client progress meetings and internal project reviews.

  • Financial and Commercial Management:

    • Review and approve project budgets, cost plans, and financial forecasts.

    • Work with the commercial team to ensure projects are financially viable and that all commercial risks are identified and mitigated.

    • Oversee project invoicing, variations, and final accounts to ensure commercial success.

    • Implement and monitor robust financial reporting systems for all projects.

  • Client and Stakeholder Relations:

    • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with key clients, architects, and consultants.

    • Represent the company in a professional manner, acting as the primary point of contact for senior-level client queries.

    • Ensure all project communications are clear, timely, and professional.

  • Process and Standards:

    • Develop, implement, and maintain project management processes, procedures, and best practices to improve efficiency and consistency across the business.

    • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.

    • Drive a culture of quality assurance, ensuring all projects are delivered to the highest standards of workmanship.

    • Report to the senior leadership team on project performance, risks, and opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in project management within the construction industry, with at least 3-5 years in a senior or leadership role.

  • Demonstrable experience working for a D&B contractor is essential.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously, with values up to and exceeding £10 million.

  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is highly desirable.

  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., Prince2, APM, CIOB) are a significant advantage.

  • Strong understanding of contract law (JCT, NEC) and commercial management.

  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
