Are you a time served Mechanical Crafts-person/Engineer? Do you have experience within a Heavy Industrial environment? Are you based in or around Corby? We are supporting TATA Steel with a permanent opportunity for a Mechanical Craft Team Member to join their Corby works. Corby works are undergoing substantial investment and development to drive the organisation's mission of being a sustainable steel provider.

The successful applicant will hold a time served Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship and have experience within a Heavy Industrial environment.

Role: Crane Engineer

Location: TATA Steel, Weldon Rd, Corby NN17 5UA

Rate: £33,163 + 20% shift allowance = £39,795.60. This rises to £34,308 + 20% shift allowance (£41,169.60) upon successful completion of probation period.

Shifts: Days, 4 week rotating shift pattern which does include weekend working 3 weekends out of 4. (Rest days included in the week)

Start: ASAP but pending the successful result of a medical assessment. (This does include a drug and alcohol test)

Responsibilities:

  • Mainly assisting in the roll stand refurbishment team, keeping the mill equipment in working order
  • Assisting the tooling department with assigned duties
  • Stripping down, inspecting and rebuilding roll stands
  • Working with technical drawings to replace and/or repair parts, fitting bearings and gears
  • Using Induction heaters and presses
  • Assisting other teams with moving spares around site
  • Adhering to strict Health and Safety protocols and SSOW
  • Supporting with improvement initiatives within the department

Essential requirements:

  • Time served apprenticeship and NVQ3 (Mechanical Engineering)
  • Previous experience (2+ years) within a Heavy Industrial environment
  • Exceptional experience with mechanical fitting which includes bearing and gear fitting
  • Experience using induction heaters and presses
  • The ability to conduct a physically demanding role, with no concerns around working with grease, scale and dust on a daily basis
  • UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle
  • Ability to be fully flexible and adhere to the shift pattern
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation

Desirable requirements:

  • FLT experience (up to 2 tonnes)
  • Overhead crane experience (up to 10 tonnes)
