About the School

We are recruiting on behalf of a highly respected, state-of-the-art SEND school in South Benfleet. The school provides an exceptional learning environment specifically tailored for pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), alongside complex medical needs and Autism. The provision is fully equipped with specialist facilities (including sensory rooms and hydrotherapy pools) and prides itself on delivering a rich, sensory-based, and highly personalised curriculum that celebrates every individual achievement.

The Role

As a Specialist SEND Teacher, you will lead a small, close-knit classroom tailored for learners with complex SLD or PMLD. You will work alongside a generous ratio of highly trained Support Assistants and healthcare professionals to deliver holistic care and education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver a highly creative, sensory-focused curriculum adapted to the specific needs of SLD/PMLD learners.
  • Implement and track individual targets based on Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Utilise total communication frameworks (Makaton, PECS, AAC, and eye-gaze technology) to unlock expression in non-verbal learners.
  • Oversee personal care, moving and handling, and sensory integration routines within the classroom, ensuring a safe and dignified environment.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech & Language Therapists.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
  • Proven experience teaching pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and/or Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
  • Strong knowledge of sensory curricula, engagement models, and multi-sensory teaching approaches.
  • Training or experience in manual handling, hoist usage, or medical/personal care support is highly desirable.
  • A deeply empathetic, patient, and resilient educator who understands that progress for these learners is measured in milestones, not just metrics.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive Pay: Paid to the Main Pay Scale (MPS), plus a SEND allowance.
  • Exceptional Resources: Work in a purpose-built environment designed specifically for complex needs.
  • Expert Collaboration: A supportive network of internal therapists, nurses, and leadership.
  • Specialist CPD: Continuous professional development in PMLD/SLD specific frameworks, communication aids, and medical care.

If you are a dedicated educator with a passion for PMLD and SLD provisions, we want to hear from you.
