Location: Waltham on the Wolds

Contract length: 12 Months

Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday Onsite (8 hour day with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break)

The successful Scientist will join the Team of Chemists and help execute laboratory workflows by performing high-quality sample preparation and running analytical runs on Mass Spectrometry (MS) platforms. This role requires comfort in safely managing and processing both chemical and biological samples, alongside coordinating daily lab activities, maintaining key equipment, and actively driving operational efficiency.

This role is focused on chemical analysis of biological samples using mass spectrometry, providing high-quality data to meet research project requirements. This position is an excellent opportunity to join a skilled team working for an innovative and exciting brand. Previous laboratory experience is essential ideally within a Research and Development environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Run prepared samples on Mass Spectrometry platforms to generate high-quality analytical data.
  • Perform sample preparation and extraction techniques following existing routine laboratory methodologies.
  • Maintain key laboratory equipment, following established laboratory practices.
  • Assist with validating new methodologies and support the development, refinement, and troubleshooting of experimental techniques under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate electronic lab notebooks (ELN) in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
  • Provide updates and present data to internal stakeholders through written reports or presentations.
  • Provide training and support to other Laboratory Scientists on routine methodologies.
  • Adhere to quality, environmental, health, and safety requirements, supporting the implementation and maintenance of key lab initiatives.
Key Skills/ Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or a closely related scientific discipline.
  • Proven experience in applying a variety of analytical chemistry techniques to generate high-quality data, with specific hands-on experience using Mass Spectrometry technologies (e.g., FT-ICR-MS, GC-MS, HPLC, LC-MS).
  • Demonstrated comfort and experience in the safe handling and processing of biological samples.
  • Proven experience working in a laboratory setting; prior experience in a research and development environment is highly desirable.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, efficiently prioritising tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in sourcing and ordering laboratory consumables required for project execution.
  • Experience working in compliance with QSHE standards, including conducting risk assessments, SOP writing and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with internal stakeholders, external collaborators and visitors.
  • High attention to detail in maintaining accurate records of experimental work and sample tracking in compliance with organisational guidelines.
