Job Title: Project Engineer Location: Leicestershire Contract Length: 12 months Randstad Sourceright, a leading provider of RPO & MSP Recruitment Services, is currently recruiting for an External Project Engineer on behalf of Mars. This role is essential for expanding engineering execution capabilities to support a high-priority capital project portfolio across Mars' Wet, Dry, and Care & Treats manufacturing facilities. Job Purpose To drive and execute end-to-end engineering projects across the plant lifecycle—managing technical development, layout optimization, equipment integration, planning, on-site installation, and commissioning. The Project Engineer ensures full adherence to budget, milestone timelines, safety policies, and hygienic food design standards within a multi-disciplinary factory environment. Responsibilities * Technical Design & Layout Management: Develop and optimize equipment and line layouts for processing, packaging, and auxiliary plant areas. * Vendor & Machine Integration: Collaborate closely with equipment OEMs and third-party engineering firms on custom machine designs, adaptations, and technical modifications. * Engineering Review & Validation: Draft, evaluate, and approve key engineering documents, including User Requirement Specifications (URS), Functional Design Specifications (FDS), Scopes of Work (SOW), P&IDs, process flow diagrams, or electrical single-line diagrams depending on project stream. * Planning & Procurement Support: Establish detailed Work Breakdown Structures and schedules in MS Project, support tendering packages (RFPs/RFQs), and conduct rigorous technical bid evaluations. * On-Site Installation & Site Safety: Supervise mechanical, electrical, and facility installation work, strictly enforcing Mars Safety and Quality & Food Safety (Q&FS) policies. * Permit-to-Work Oversight: Issue and manage high-risk work permits on-site, including hot works, working at height, and confined space entries. * Testing, Commissioning & Handover: Lead and execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), ramp-up trials, and final operational handover with complete as-built CAD documentation. * Governance & Budget Tracking: Actively track milestone deliverables and capex expenditure against plan, mitigating variance risks and delivering structured reporting to project leadership
