Are you an experienced Mechanical & Construction Engineer? Do you consider yourself technically strong and an asset to a busy team? Are you based in or around the UK and available for a fixed-term assignment? We have a 1-year contract role available within a leading FMCG / Surfactant Manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical engineering and construction skills and is hands-on, proactive, and collaborative.

Location: UK-based (exact site TBC)

Rate: £50,000 – £70,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Contract length: 1 year (Fixed-Term Assignment)

Shift Patterns: Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 or 07:00–15:00

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise across mechanical and construction scopes: design, procurement, installation, commissioning.
  • Develop and cost capital project scopes; support broader project teams on major capital projects.
  • Liaise with stakeholders (Operations, Safety, Quality) to ensure compliance with business needs.
  • Ensure all activities meet safety standards (e.g., IEC, OSHA); proactively identify and mitigate risks.
  • Draft and issue work scopes for procurement and contractor bidding.
  • Conduct best value analysis for supplier selection.
  • Lead and participate in design reviews.
  • Manage mechanical construction: writing permits, overseeing safety and quality execution.
  • Conduct safety briefings for construction teams.
  • Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Prepare and execute checklists for installation validation and equipment commissioning.
  • Monitor and address any post-start-up issues promptly.

Essential Requirements:

  • Extensive onsite experience in mechanical engineering within Surfactant or Chemical plant environments.
  • Strong AutoCAD capability, including GA’s, Isometrics, P&ID’s, and 3D models.
  • Solid MS Office proficiency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong project planning and execution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Degree or NVQ qualification in Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years managing projects/construction in a Process or FMCG setting.

Desirable Requirements:

  • ONC/HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
  • ATEX qualification or experience in ATEX environments.
  • Qualification in Construction Design & Drawing Regulations.
  • Knowledge of European & UK welding standards (ASME, NBIC).
  • Driving license and use of a car.
