The Site EHS Advisor is an on-site safety champion who enforces compliance, runs inductions, and has full authority to stop work immediately if conditions are unsafe. Site EHS Advisors are responsible for providing primarily operational EHS support to the Site Manager and site organization.
Some of the duties will include but are not limited to:
- Walk the site routinely to identify unsafe acts or conditions, and log them into safety reporting tools.
- Run mandatory safety inductions for all new personnel, contractors, and visitors before they begin work on site.
- Deliver project-specific safety training and short "toolbox talks" focused on local laws and mitigating site risks.
- Provide technical safety feedback on contractor risk assessments and method statements, and monitor their work against these agreements.
- Gather information on accidents or near-misses, conduct root cause investigations, and enter the data into reporting workflows.
- Set up and facilitate local emergency response drills and ensure safety equipment is readily available on site.
- Develop and distribute weekly EHS site updates and immediately escalate significant incidents to management.
- Ensure all hazardous substances and chemicals are stored in correct locations with active safety assessments.
- Organize the mandatory project EHS folders, post required safety notices prominently, and coordinate fire risk assessments for site premises.
Essential Requirements:
- Detailed, working knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation specifically related to large construction projects.
- Proven experience implementing EHS arrangements for a Principal Contractor on CDM projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to handle contractor management, site forums, and safety campaigns.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort using digital safety reporting tools to log incidents and manage workflows.
- A strict understanding of corporate health and safety policies, fair trading, regulatory compliance, and data protection rules.
- Must hold a Diploma or equivalent in Health & Safety Management.
- Must hold a Diploma or equivalent in Environmental Management.
- Possession of a CCNSG Passport, and for onshore projects, a BESC and National Grid Person qualification. (Note: For offshore projects, a BOSIET and Ladder training are required.)
- Mandatory certification or formal training in Accident Investigation, Fire Safety, and CDM (Construction Design and Management) Awareness.
Desirable Requirements:
- IOSH Chartered Member status.
- Experience as a Lead Auditor for OHSAS 18001 / ISO 14001 standards.
- Experience or training in HSG47 (Avoiding danger from underground services).
- Background in safety coaching and behavioral safety programs.
- A valid First Aid at Work certification.
- SF6 Gas awareness training.
