We are looking for a highly skilled Service Engineer to join the team. You will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, testing, commissioning and repair of smoke damper control systems within HVAC and fire safety systems. Please note: hours will vary depending on locations you need to attend; working away from home will be part of the role - business need dependent - all digs/food etc. paid for; overtime is time in lieu.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform regular inspections, testing, commissioning and servicing of smoke damper control systems, ensuring they are in compliance with fire safety standards and regulations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve faults with smoke damper control panels, actuators, and associated electrical components.
- Carry out calibrations and adjustments of smoke damper control systems to ensure proper operation during fire emergencies.
- Commission and service smoke damper control systems as part of new HVAC and fire safety installations.
- Maintain and repair smoke damper control circuits and wiring, ensuring safe and reliable operations.
- Diagnose, repair, and replace components of smoke damper control systems, including sensors, actuators, and control panels.
- Provide detailed reports and documentation of work carried out, including test results, maintenance records, and recommendations for improvements or upgrades.
- Work closely with clients to understand their specific needs and provide technical guidance on the operation and maintenance of the systems.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes and safety regulations (e.g., NFPA, BS EN9999, local fire safety standards).
- Collaborate with colleagues and external contractors to ensure smooth coordination of service work and system upgrades.
- Stay current with industry standards and advances in smoke damper control technology.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience working with smoke damper control systems, including smoke dampers, actuators, and fire safety control panels.
- Electrical or mechanical engineering qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, HNC, or equivalent) preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, control systems, and fire safety standards.
- Experience in troubleshooting electrical and control systems, with an understanding of wiring, circuitry, and control panel configurations.
- Familiarity with fire safety regulations and standards (e.g., NFPA, BS EN9999, or local fire safety codes).
- Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system manuals.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with clients, contractors, and team members.
- Full UK driving license (or relevant local equivalent) and the ability to travel to various client sites.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls effectively.
- Knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) and integration with smoke damper control systems is a plus.
