We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Manufacturing Specialist to support our Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives. This 12-month fixed-term assignment involves hands-on problem solving, standard work maintenance, and active participation in our improvement workshops.

Location: Caterpillar - Springvale Site (Millennium Way, Belfast, BT12 7AL)

Pay Rate: £17.95 per hour

Shift timing: Mon 07:00 - 17:15, Tues - Thurs 07:00 - 16:45

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week (Mon - Thurs)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lean & Continuous Improvement: Support and co-facilitate Rapid Improvement Workshops (RIWs) / Kaizen events; participate in daily waste-identification walks and Gemba activities.
  • Digital CI Management: Assist with the Digital CI Card process (entry, tracking, and closure) and maintain CI boards to ensure visual management standards are met.
  • 5S & Standards: Run 5S checks, support audits, and help teams implement sustainable workplace organization.
  • Problem Solving: Support Rapid Response activities, assist in Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) sessions, and support the closure of 8Ds / A3s.
  • Operational Support: Update Standard Work, assist with safety walk observations, and identify process abnormalities or quality defects.
  • Process Improvement: Assist with tooling audits and flow enhancement; Spaghetti Mapping knowledge is highly desirable.

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong interest in Lean thinking, waste elimination, and hands-on problem solving.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with production teams and engineering partners.
  • Ability to follow verbal/written Standard Work and basic data-collection processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret simple mechanical drawings or process documentation.
  • Good computer literacy, with the ability to use digital CI tools.

Desired Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a lean-focused environment or participation in Kaizen/RIW activity.
  • Basic understanding of 5S, Kaizen, Standard Work, or RCCA.
  • Experience supporting audits, CI boards, or continuous improvement systems.
  • Proactive mindset with strong attention to detail and task organization.
