About the Role
Are you a compassionate, resilient individual looking for a rewarding role in education? Randstad is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a fantastic school in Newton Abbot, starting this September. This is a full-time position working school hours (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM), making it perfect for maintaining a great work-life balance. You will be providing crucial 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities as an SEN TA:
- Provide 1:1 support to pupils with diverse needs, including Autism (ASD), ADHD, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.
- Deliver tailored learning activities adapted to the specific needs and abilities of the pupils.
- Manage challenging behaviour effectively using positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques.
- Collaborate closely with class teachers and the school SENDCo to monitor and report on student progress.
- Foster an inclusive, safe, and engaging environment where pupils feel supported.
What We Are Looking For:
- Experience: Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (school, care, or youth work settings are all highly valued).
- Skills: Strong communication skills, exceptional patience, and a nurturing, empathetic nature.
- Qualifications: A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or Team Teach training is a plus, but passion and the right attitude are most important.
- Requirements: A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one) and two satisfactory references.
