About the Role: Are you looking for a dynamic role in education that gives you full classroom control without the baggage of lesson planning, marking, or parents' evenings? Our partner secondary schools along the Purley and Kenley border are seeking confident, resilient individuals to join their cover teams. This role is perfect for recent graduates, aspiring secondary teachers, sports coaches, or ex-military/security professionals who excel at managing groups of teenagers. You will be responsible for overseeing classes across various subjects (from English to PE) when the permanent teacher is absent, ensuring pupils remain on task with pre-set work in a structured learning environment.

What you will do:

  • Supervise pre-planned lessons for students aged 11-16 (Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4).
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour, managing the classroom using the school's behaviour policy.
  • Assist students with their work, ensuring they understand the instructions left by the teacher.
  • Collect completed work at the end of the lesson and pass it back to the department.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience managing groups of teenagers or young adults (e.g., youth work, sports coaching, tutoring, or camp leadership).
  • A confident, commanding, yet encouraging presence.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Based locally with a reliable commute to the Purley, Kenley, or Riddlesdown area.

This is an ongoing, permanent role (or fixed-term, dependent on requirements).
