We are looking for adaptable and proactive Cover Teachers to support Secondary Schools across the Newport and Saffron Walden area. This role is ideal for qualified teachers who enjoy variety, value a healthy work-life balance, and want to gain experience in different school environments without the demands of long-term planning and marking.
Responsibilities
- Classroom Management: Maintain a positive and productive learning environment, ensuring the school's behaviour policy is upheld with a firm but fair approach.
- Lesson Delivery: Follow the provided cover work to deliver lessons across a variety of subjects, ensuring students understand the tasks and remain engaged.
- Adaptability: Be ready to pivot between subjects—from English and Humanities to Science and PE—utilising your general teaching skills to support diverse curricula.
- Student Support: Provide guidance to students as they work through their set tasks, answering questions and encouraging independent learning.
- Reporting: Leave clear, concise notes for the returning class teacher regarding student progress, behaviour, and any work completed during the session.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or significant experience as a Cover Supervisor.
- The ability to think on your feet and manage a classroom of 30+ students effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build quick rapport with students and staff.
- Reliable transport or ease of access to schools in the Newport and Saffron Walden region.
- An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
