About Us: A Different Way to Teach
Are you tired of the mainstream "one-size-fits-all" pressure cooker? Do you believe that education should start with a relationship, not just a test score? At Aurora Chaldon School, we do things differently. Opened in September 2025, our brand-new, purpose-built secondary school supports brilliant young people (aged 11-16) who navigate the world a little differently. Our students experience social communication challenges, sensory processing differences, and emotional regulation needs typically associated with Autism. We don't expect our students to fit into a box. Instead, we wrap a world-class support system around them. With tiny class sizes, exceptional classroom support ratios, and an on-site, multidisciplinary therapy team, we give you the time, freedom, and resources to actually teach.
The Role: Why This Opportunity is Different
We are looking for a passionate Nurture Teacher to join our foundational team. In this role, you aren't just ticking boxes; you are building a safe haven where students can rediscover the joy of learning.
What you will be doing:
- Create Bespoke Learning Journeys: Use your creativity to adapt the National Curriculum into highly personalised, engaging lessons tailored to what your students love.
- Teach the Whole Child: Focus heavily on emotional regulation, social skills, and sensory management alongside academics.
- Collaborate with Experts: Work side-by-side daily with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and behaviour specialists. You are never on your own.
- De-escalate with Empathy: Work in a strictly non-confrontational, therapeutic way, viewing "challenging behaviour" simply as communication that needs to be understood.
- Drive Student Growth: Manage and contribute to EHCPs, PEPs, and individual target reviews to celebrate every victory, no matter how small.
What We Are Looking For
The Essentials:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - Mandatory for the £5,000 welcome bonus.
- A Heart for SEND: Proven experience working with young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Flexibility & Resilience: A positive, "can-do" attitude and the willingness to lend a hand across our Chaldon and Caterham sites as our community grows.
The Desirables:
- Additional qualifications or specific professional development in SEND/Autism.
- A background in curriculum development for alternative provisions or special schools.
