We are seeking Qualified Art Teachers (QTS/ECTs) to provide specialist cover across a variety of secondary schools. This role allows you to focus on the "studio" side of teaching - guiding students through their sketchbooks and final pieces - without the burden of departmental data meetings or weekend marking.
Creative Freedom: Lead lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, covering everything from traditional painting and drawing to sculpture, textiles, and digital media.
Professional Variety: Experience different school art departments and resources, keeping your own creative practice fresh while building a diverse professional network.
Work-Life Balance: Reclaim your evenings! Deliver high-energy, practical-led lessons during the day and leave the planning and parent consultations to the permanent staff.
Weekly Pay: Competitive daily rates of £140 - £233, paid every Friday via Randstad.
Your Role as an Art Lead
As a Secondary Art Teacher, you are responsible for developing students' technical proficiency and their ability to think critically about visual culture.
Expert Lesson Delivery: Facilitate engaging practical workshops, encouraging students to experiment with materials while teaching the formal elements of art and design.
GCSE & A-Level Focus: Support examination cohorts with targeted portfolio advice, focusing on AO1-AO4 assessment objectives and the refinement of final outcomes.
Studio Management: Maintain a safe, organized, and inspiring learning environment, ensuring all students handle equipment and materials with respect and skill.
Adaptive Support: Differentiate creative tasks on the fly to support students with SEND or EAL, ensuring that the joy of artistic expression is accessible to all.
Essential Requirements
We are looking for articulate and passionate practitioners who can inspire a "culture of creativity" in the classroom. You are an ideal fit if you:
- Hold QTS: You have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching qualification (ECTs are highly encouraged to apply).
- Are an Art Specialist: You have a degree in Fine Art, Design, or a related field, with a solid grasp of the KS3/KS4 National Curriculum and assessment criteria.
- Are an Engaging Mentor: You can build rapport with teenagers quickly and use your own passion for the arts to spark their imagination.
- Are Committed: You hold an enhanced DBS on the update service (or are willing to apply) and are 100% dedicated to Safeguarding.
