Location: Littlehampton

Salary: £93-£100 per day (12-week placement)

Permanent Salary: £22,000-£23,500 per annum

Hours: Monday to Friday | 8:15 AM - 3:30 PM

Following a successful 12-week placement, there is the opportunity to move into a permanent role within the team.

About the Setting: Join a specialist Pupil Referral Unit in Littlehampton supporting primary and secondary‑aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The setting provides a structured, safe, and nurturing environment for pupils who have struggled to access mainstream education. With a strong focus on emotional regulation, behaviour support, and personalised learning, the aim is to help students re‑engage with education and rebuild confidence. Through small group learning, consistent routines, and a highly supportive staff team, pupils are encouraged to develop resilience, improve social skills, and achieve meaningful educational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them regulate emotions and engage positively in learning.
  • Use effective strategies to support positive behaviour, de‑escalate situations, and promote emotional regulation.
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver tailored learning approaches and maintain engagement.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support their emotional wellbeing and educational progress.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people in education, PRU, alternative provision, youth work, care, or similar SEMH‑focused environments.
  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) are required.
  • Calm, patient, resilient, and committed to supporting vulnerable young people with complex needs.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work as part of a team, and confidence in managing challenging behaviour in a positive and consistent way.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and commitment to maintaining a safe, structured learning environment.
