Role and Responsibilities

  • Leading small class groups and delivering pre-planned learning activities provided by the class teacher.
  • Maintaining a calm, safe, and structured classroom environment tailored to the sensory and emotional needs of pupils.
  • Facilitating engagement using visual schedules, symbol systems, and clear, adapted communication.
  • Directing and working alongside classroom teaching assistants to ensure consistency and positive behavior support throughout the day.
  • Providing clear handovers and feedback to regular class teams regarding pupil progress and classroom dynamics.

Skills Required

  • The ability to step into new classroom environments confidently and adapt quickly to varying pupil needs.
  • Good foundational knowledge of autism spectrum conditions, sensory processing differences, and communication strategies.
  • Skills in positive behaviour management, low-arousal approaches, and de-escalation techniques.
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills to connect effectively with pupils and school staff.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant experience working with children or young adults with special educational needs (SEN) within an educational, care, or support setting.
  • A strong, patient, and empathetic personality with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Full eligibility to work in the UK (please note, visa sponsorship is not available for this role).
  • An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to undergo a new check via Randstad.
