Our forward-thinking special educational needs (SEN) school is seeking a dedicated Special Education Support Specialist to join our team. We\\\โ€™re committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) can reach their full potential.

About the Role: A Day in the Life

As a Special Education Support Specialist, you\\\โ€™ll be a key part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing tailored support to students aged 5-11. Your primary focus will be on fostering confidence, promoting mutual respect, and implementing personalised learning experiences. You\\\โ€™ll work collaboratively with teachers and therapists to design and execute individualised learning plans (ILPs).

This role isn\\\โ€™t just about academics; it\\\โ€™s about holistic development. You\\\โ€™ll support students\\\โ€™ emotional and social growth by using specialised tools like fidget toys and wobble cushions, and by creating personalised spaces that meet their unique sensory needs. You\\\โ€™ll use a calm and respectful approach to address behavioural challenges, modeling positive behaviours and helping students build essential life skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on Individualised Plans: Work with a team of professionals to develop and implement learning plans tailored to each child.
  • Facilitate Holistic Growth: Support academic, emotional, and social development, helping students build confidence and independence.
  • Implement Adaptive Strategies: Use a variety of tools and techniques to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Manage Behaviour with Empathy: Address challenging behaviours calmly and respectfully, while modeling positive conduct.
  • Ensure Safety and Well-being: Maintain a structured and safe environment through vigilant supervision.
  • Engage in Professional Development: Continuously refine your skills in behaviour management and special education practices.

What We\\\โ€™re Looking For: Your Skills & Experience

We\\\โ€™re searching for a compassionate and adaptable individual with a passion for special education.

  • Experience: A minimum of a year of experience working with children in an educational or care setting, with a focus on SEMH, ASC, or similar needs.
  • Qualifications: Relevant certifications such as an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Working with Children, or equivalent training.
  • Behaviour Management: A proven ability to manage challenging behaviours effectively while fostering a positive atmosphere.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly and empathetically with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Adaptability: The ability to tailor your support to the unique needs of each child.
  • Technical Skills: Basic ICT skills for documentation and communication.

Desirable Skills: Additional training in areas like First Aid, Child Protection, or Team Teach is highly valued.

We offer a supportive and collaborative work environment where your contributions directly impact the lives of incredible children. If you\\\โ€™re a proactive and empathetic professional ready to make a difference, we encourage you to apply immediately.
