An opening has arisen for a Learning Support Mentor (Health and Personal Care) to join a specialised Supported Learning team in Cambridge. This permanent, part-time position is designed for someone who is passionate about inclusion and ready to provide the essential physical and academic support that enables students with disabilities to access their education. You will be working with a diverse group of learners, including those with physical access needs, sensory impairments, and ASD, ensuring their health and personal care requirements are met with dignity and professional excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Personal & Health Care: Provide vital support for students with health or personal care needs, ensuring they are comfortable and ready to engage with their learning journey.
  • Academic Empowerment: Assist students in the classroom with note-taking, reading materials, word processing, and using enabling technologies to access the curriculum.
  • Independence & Inclusion: Work under the guidance of the Inclusion Coordinator to help students achieve their EHCP targets and develop greater independence.
  • Therapeutic Support: Assist in the delivery of therapy interventions, such as Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy, following professional programmes.
  • Resource Adaptation: Modify learning materials (e.g., enlarging text or adapting language) to ensure accessibility for all students.
  • Holistic Support: Accompany students during breaks, lunches, and on college trips to ensure a safe and supportive environment at all times.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate daily records using Pro-monitor to reflect the support provided and track student progression.
Requirements
  • Experience: Previous experience supporting individuals with learning difficulties, disabilities, or complex health needs.
  • Personal Attributes: A patient, empathetic, and respectful approach, particularly regarding personal care and student dignity.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with lecturing staff, parents, and external key workers.
  • Safeguarding: A strong commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of young people.
  • Compliance: An Enhanced DBS check is a mandatory requirement for this role.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work in various learning environments and support students with metacognitive skills.
