1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant Required - Primary School in West Cambridge
Are you a patient, nurturing, and dedicated educator looking for a deeply rewarding long-term role? Do you have a passion for inclusive education and the specialist skills required to help a child in their school life? We are seeking a compassionate and skilled SEN Teaching Assistant for a dedicated 1:1 role at a wonderful primary school based in West Cambridge. This is a temporary, long-term position running from September to December, supporting a lovely child in Reception class.
This role requires an individual who can provide a safe, engaging, and highly tailored environment to help the pupil access the EYFS curriculum, overcome barriers to learning, and truly thrive in a mainstream setting.
The Role:- 1:1 Support in Reception
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday (term-time only), from September until the Christmas break.
- Tailored Support: Implement visual aids, sensory routines, and specialised communication strategies to bridge the gap for the pupil.
- EYFS Inclusion: Work alongside the Reception class teacher and external specialists to adapt early years play and learning activities, ensuring they are accessible, stimulating, and safe.
- Social & Personal Growth: Foster the pupil's independence, confidence, and social interaction with their peers.
- Previous experience supporting children with complex Special Educational Needs (SEN) or significant learning and communication difficulties.
- Strong communication skills: Proficiency in specialised communication frameworks (such as Makaton, PECS, or visual timetables) is highly desirable to support individual development.
- A patient, warm, and robust nature‑someone who understands the unique developmental stages of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
- A collaborative mindset, ready to work closely with the class teacher, the school SENCo, external therapists, and the child's parents.
- A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).
- Excellent daily rates of pay, paid weekly into your account.
- The stability of a guaranteed, consistent long-term placement for the autumn term.
- A supportive, inclusive school environment with a dedicated staff team who are invested in the child's progress.
- A dedicated local consultant with expert knowledge of the Cambridgeshire education sector to support you throughout the placement.
