A leading specialist school in Bury St Edmunds is seeking a talented Unqualified SEN Teacher to take on the responsibility of leading a class. This role is perfect for an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), an overseas trained teacher awaiting UK status, or a specialist Instructor with a background in SEN, Autism (ASC), or SEMH. This is a Full-Time long-term contract where you will have the autonomy to manage a classroom while receiving support from a highly skilled leadership team.
Key Responsibilities- Classroom Leadership: Take the lead in planning and delivering engaging, practical lessons tailored to the individual needs of students with SEN.
- Support Management: Oversee a team of Teaching Assistants, ensuring they are effectively deployed to support student learning and safety.
- Progress Tracking: Monitor student engagement and record progress against their personal learning goals and EHCP targets.
- Inclusive Delivery: Use creative and sensory-based methods to make the curriculum accessible to students with various learning barriers.
- Safe Learning: Implement positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to maintain a calm and nurturing environment.
- Collaboration: Attend staff meetings and work closely with senior leadership to ensure the best possible outcomes for your pupils.
- Extensive SEN Experience: Proven track record of working with children or young people with ASC, SLD, or SEMH.
- Instructional Ability: Previous experience leading groups, delivering interventions, or acting as a Cover Supervisor/HLTA is highly desirable.
- The "SEN Mindset": A deep understanding of the challenges students with SEN face and a patient, resilient approach to teaching.
- Adaptability: The ability to think on your feet and adjust lessons to meet the emotional and sensory needs of the class.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with students and work effectively within a team.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
