We are currently seeking Cover Supervisors and General Cover Teachers to support several vibrant Secondary Schools across Bury St Edmunds. This is a highly flexible role - whether you are looking for full-time consistency or just a few days a week to fit around your schedule. You will be the "safe pair of hands" that schools rely on to ensure learning continues smoothly when regular teachers are absent.
Key Responsibilities- Classroom Management: Lead pre-planned lessons across a variety of subjects, ensuring students stay focused, respectful, and on-task.
- Instructional Support: Clearly explain the work set by the absent teacher and provide guidance to students as they complete their activities.
- Positive Environment: Maintain a productive learning atmosphere by implementing the school's behaviour policy fairly and consistently.
- Problem Solving: Think on your feet to resolve minor classroom issues and ensure all students feel supported in their work.
- Collaboration: Work alongside Teaching Assistants and department heads to ensure the safety and well-being of all pupils.
- Feedback: Provide brief, helpful notes for the returning teacher regarding student progress and any notable classroom events.
- Experience: Previous experience working with groups of children or teenagers (e.g., coaching, youth work, camp leader, or school support).
- Confidence: A strong, professional presence and the ability to command respect in a classroom setting.
- Adaptability: A "can-do" attitude and the willingness to cover any subject, from English to PE.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills to interact with both students and school leadership.
- Education: A degree is preferred, but we welcome applications from those with significant relevant experience in education.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
- Flexible Working: Choose the days you want to work - ideal for balancing other commitments.
