Randstad Education is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who is dedicated and passionate about dealing with special needs children and young people. This role is available to start as soon as possible at a wonderful specialist school located in Bristol. This position requires some experience working with SEN/children. If you have experience working as a teaching assistant in a mainstream school and would like the opportunity to specialize in SEND support, or if you are currently working in the care or residential care sector and interested in using your transferable skills to support in a specialist school.
School Overview: This is a beautiful school for students of all ages (ages 3 to 19) that offers instruction to students with physical disabilities, illnesses, and related learning and communication challenges. They want to give young people an educational experience that will not only help them improve their academic skills but will also foster personal growth and self-esteem. The school is searching for a caring and resilient individual to be part of their dedicated and supportive team. All the pupils who attend the school will have an Educational Health Care plan, many of the pupils have complex needs in addition to autism, and many have severe learning difficulties (SLD). This role is best suited for individuals who can:
- Work with pupils on a one-to-one basis or in small groups
- Support the teacher in delivering informative and engaging lessons
- Support students with challenging behaviour
- Prepare for lessons (e.g. preparing resources, putting out equipment)
- Support with some of the pupils' additional care needs (e.g. feeding, toileting)
- Support the children in completing day-to-day tasks around the classroom and with their learning
- Ensure that pupils are safeguarded and supported
To be considered for this role, you must have the following:
- Eligibility to work in UK
- Enhanced child DBS on the update service or willingness to get one
- Experience working with children or young people with additional care needs
- 2 recent professional references
- Experience with challenging behaviours
- A calm & caring personality
- A strong and resilient personality and be committed to pupils' development
- Reading, writing, numeracy and communication skills
- Team Teach trained - or willing to attend training
