We are recruiting talented SEN Teaching Assistants to join primary schools throughout Blackburn starting this September 2026.

In this vital role, you'll turn daily challenges into meaningful achievements-whether that's delivering targeted 1:1 support, assisting children with Autism, ADHD, or emotional needs, implementing sensory activities, or guiding small groups toward success.

Your Responsibilities as an SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Collaborate with children individually or in small groups to enhance their learning and personal development.
  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for children with additional needs (Autism, ADHD, SEMH, cognitive delay).
  • Serve as a positive role model for both students and colleagues.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, families, and SENCOs.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff members, including specialist support staff and therapists.
  • Assist the class teacher in resource preparation and bespoke activity setup.
  • Help prepare sensory tools or specialized resources and tidy the learning space afterwards.
  • Support children across the curriculum while adapting to their individual pace.
  • Help monitor, track, and report student progress to teachers and SEN team.
  • Help look after children during school trips, break times, and unstructured activities.
  • Attend relevant school meetings and reviews.

Essential requirements

  • Experience working with young people with special educational needs.
  • Comfortable and confident in managing challenging behaviour and de-escalation.
  • Able to engage with, motivate, and build strong rapport with children.
  • Creative, proactive, and flexible supporting style.
  • Confidence in guiding individuals or small groups.
  • A positive attitude and effective communication skills.
  • TA Qualified (Level 2/3 or equivalent).
