We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join our thriving Inclusion Department. This vital role focuses on providing high-quality support to pupils with additional educational needs (AEN) and working collaboratively with teaching colleagues to ensure all pupils achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting Pupils with Additional Needs
- Promoting Engagement: Helping pupils improve their attention, remain on task, and ensuring they are properly organised with correct equipment at the start of each lesson.
- Encouraging Participation: Inspiring pupils to make a contribution to lessons through answering questions and joining discussions.
- Emotional & Social Support: Assisting in the management of pupils with emotional or social difficulties, encouraging appropriate social interaction, and fostering acceptance by peers. You will also discourage any inappropriate or unacceptable behaviours towards others.
- Academic Support: Explaining and clarifying vocabulary and subject-specific words, helping record and explain homework assignments, and supporting the achievement of desired outcomes on EHCPs and ILPs.
- Health and Safety: Checking the safety of the work area and making sure any equipment to be used is safe.
- Collaboration: Communicating daily with subject teachers, becoming familiar with intended schemes of work, and planning collaboratively so that you can operate effectively in the classroom.
- Adaptive Teaching: Assisting the teacher with adaptive teaching strategies to reflect individual pupil needs.
- Learning Access: Preparing access to learning tasks and occasionally withdrawing small groups for additional focused support when requested.
- Teamwork: Working as an integral part of the Inclusion Team to ensure all pupils with AEN are learning and that they are making recognisable progress in all lessons.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Essential Qualifications: A GCSE in Maths and English at Grade C or equivalent.
- Experience working with children and young people with additional needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive, patient, and resilient approach.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
